Armenian activists oppose building cafe in Garni Temple

About 50 people staged a protest against the construction of a cafe in the territory of the ancient Armenian pagan temple of Garni, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

In the context of the start of the construction of the above café, an initiative group "Let's Go to Garni" was organized in the social network Facebook, which today unites about 200 people.

Early in the morning on March 2, activists left, in their cars and on their bikes, from Yerevan to Garni, where they were joined by local residents with the posters: "We are owners of our village!" and "Stop desecrating relics of Armenia!"

"No construction is acceptable in the territory of the holy temple... They'd better spend the money to improve village roads, not to erect a cafe in order to earn still more money," said one of the locals, who preferred to remain anonymous.
