Torchbearers from all NCFD subjects take part in Paralympic Torch Relay in Magas

Today, the Ingush capital Magas welcomed the Paralympic Torch Relay. Since Ingushetia is the only region of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) to welcome the Paralympic Torch Relay, today delegates from all the NCFD subjects came to take part in the torchlight procession. 80 percent of torchbearers are people with disabilities who have achieved significant results in sports, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

For the period of the relay, the republic strengthened security measures; over 1500 law enforcers were on duty in Magas.

The first torchbearer was Ruslan Nalgiev, the leader of the Paralympic Movement of Ingushetia, a retired militia captain. He is known for having taken an active part in repelling the militants' attack on Ingushetia at night on June 22, 2004, during which he saved the lives of 94 law enforcers, for which he was awarded the title of the Hero of Russia, says the republic's website.
