On May 12-18, 10 persons were killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

In the course of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, during the week from May 12 to May 18, 2014, at least 21 people suffered, including 10 killed and 11 wounded persons. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes five suspects of involvement in the armed underground in Kabardino-Balkaria, four law enforcers – three in Dagestan and one in Ingushetia, and one civilian in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On May 13, in the outskirt of the village of Gazi-Yurt in the Nazran District of Ingushetia, near the Federal Highway "Kavkaz", an inspector of the patrol-and-post service (PPS) of the Nazran OVD (Interior Division) was shot dead. As reported by law enforcement bodies, the main motive for the murder could be revenge out of jealousy, or obstruction to his service activities.

On May 15, in the village of Sogratl, Gunib District of Dagestan, policemen, who conducted their operative-search activities, were attacked. As a result, 13 policemen were wounded: three of them later died, and ten others were hospitalized.

On May 17, in the city of Chegem in Kabardino-Balkaria, three unidentified criminals opened automatic fire at the crew of the road-and-post service (known as DPS), slightly injuring one of the policemen. Two assailants were killed by retaliatory fire, and the third one managed to escape. One of those killed in the shootout was preliminarily identified as the leader of the so-called "South-Western Sector of KBR's Vilayat", which is a part of the "Imarat Kavkaz", who was on the federal wanted list.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On May 18, the administrative territory of the village of Dygulybgey, Baksan District of Kabardino-Balkaria, was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. During the special operation, a house was blocked with supposed militants inside. As a result of the assault, three militants were killed, including a field commander of the local IAF (illegal armed formation), who was on the federal wanted list.

Attacks on civilians

On May 16, in the Buynaksk District of Dagestan, a burnt-down car was found, with the body of Omaraskhab Alibegov, the Imam of the village of Stalskoe, Kizilyurt District, inside. The casualty was considered as a "follower of Wahhabism" and could be killed out of revenge. The village Imam Omaraskhab Alibegov was a nephew of the new leader of "Imarat Kavkaz" Abu Mukhammad (Aliaskhab Kebekov). According to Omaraskhab's relatives, he was kidnapped on May 14, allegedly by power agents.
