Heads of Chechnya and Krasnodar Territory are on EU's sanctions list
Alexander Tkachov, the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory, and the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov have been put on the list of persons exposed to sanctions of the European Union (EU) in the context of the worsening situation in the south-east of Ukraine and accession of the Crimea to Russia. The sanctions also cover a number of enterprises and the "Great Don Army" International Union of Public Organizations.
Apart from Tkachov and Kadyrov, the list of 15 persons, against whom the EU has introduced sanctions, includes, in particular, Rashid Nurgaliev, the Deputy Secretary of the Russia's Security Council; a member of the Security Council Boris Gryzlov; an FSB officer Sergey Beseda; a State Duma MP Sergey Degtiaryov; and the leaders of the self-proclaimed Ukrainian republics. The list was published in the EU's official journal at night on July 26.
The EU treats the listed persons as those responsible for undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine, says the EU's communiqué. The assets of these persons are frozen; and they are under a visa ban.
