MCC finds Orkhan Zeinalov guilty of Yegor Scherbakov's murder in Biryulyovo

Today, the Moscow City Court (MCC) has found Orkhan Zeinalov, a native of Azerbaijan, guilty of the murder of Yegor Scherbakov, a resident of the Moscow District of Biryulyovo. The defendant was sentenced to 17 years of a high-security penal colony. The defence of Orkhan Zeinalov has announced its intention to appeal against the sentence. This was reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Orkhan Zeinalov is accused that at night on October 10, 2013, during the fight, he stabbed 25-year-old Yegor Scherbakov, and the victim died from the wound. The murder of Yegor Scherbakov caused mass riots, during which residents of Biryulyovo demanded to investigate the crime and to eliminate the local vegetable storage, which employed mostly migrants. On October 15, 2013, Orkhan Zeinalov was detained by policemen in Moscow.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 21, the court held pleadings in the criminal case. Public prosecutor demanded to sentence the defendant to 10 years in a high-security prison and 8 years in a penal colony. The defence of Orkhan Zeinalov asked to find the defendant not guilty. The defendant pleads not guilty. In his final speech, Orkhan Zeinalov has stated that he was not at the place of the crime for which he is on trial. The defendant asked the court not to punish him severely.
