Rostov Region: five Ukrainian servicemen placed behind bars

Five Ukrainian militaries from among those who got into the territory of the Rostov Region in early August, were detained on suspicion of crimes against civilians and placed in custody, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) said today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 3 and 4. the Rostov section of the Ukrainian-Russian border was crossed by more than 400 Ukrainian servicemen. Most of them have already been sent back to Ukraine; however, according to the Ukrainian authorities, as of August 7, 46 servicemen are still in the territory of Russia.

According to Russian investigators, the detainees were involved in shelling the Ukrainian cities of Krasnopartizansk and Krasnodon, which had claimed at least 10 human lives. Investigators also check whether they had used any internationally banned ammunition and involved in shelling Russian territory, the ICRF reports.

As stated today by Vitaly Moskalenko, the Consul General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don, the detention and trial of Ukrainian militaries is contrary to the international law.
