"People's Control" reports on numerous errors in voters' lists in Abkhazia

In Abkhazia, voters' lists to be used in the election of President of Abkhazia are in urgent need of re-examination and correction. The lists still contain the names of deceased voters, for many voters their addresses and dates of birth are not indicated; and some voters are mentioned in the lists for twice or more times, activists of the public organization "People's Control" report. According to their version, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Abkhazia ignores their comments about the violations committed during the preparation for the election.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the early presidential election in Abkhazia was scheduled for August 24 after the resignation on June 1, 2014, of President Alexander Ankvab. Since May 31, Valery Bganba, the Speaker of the Parliament, is the acting president. The CEC has registered the following presidential candidates: Aslan Bjaniya, Leonid Dzapshba, Raul Khajimba and Mirab Kishmariya.

"During the period from July 16 to 31, 1759 voters have been added to the lists. Of them, four voters had deceased earlier, eight voters were included twice, and 500 voters were included without indication of places of their residence," stated Alkhasa Adjindala, the co-chair of the "People's Control", as quoted by the "Apsnypress".

Batal Tabagua, the Chairman of the Abkhazian CEC, has announced the CEC's willingness to cooperate with the NGO "People's Control". However, the CEC has refused to register the NGO as a public observer, the "Echo of the Caucasus" reports.

The co-chairs of the "People's Control" believe that if the CEC fails to respond to the above comments by August 14, this failure can be treated as deliberate violation of the current electoral legislation.
