Experts diverge on the need for South Ossetia to establish humanitarian contacts with Georgia

South Ossetia should fix humanitarian relations with Georgia, Andrei Epifantsev, the head of the analytical agency "Alte Et Certe", said at an international scientific and practical conference on August 9 in Tskhinvali. However, his opinion was not shared by other participants.

According to Epifantsev, any blunders in the sphere of economic and state building "repel the day when Russia will incorporate South Ossetia."

He noted that the introduction of new sanctions against Russia would not allow it to incorporate South Ossetia and Abkhazia in the near future.

According to Valery Dzidzoev, Doctor of History and a political analyst from North Ossetia, in spite of the current geopolitical situation, in order to restore the historical justice, it is necessary to at least start talking about reuniting the North and South Ossetia.

He believes that the processes currently underway in the post-Soviet territory and the western countries' sanctioning Russia should not touch the issue of Ossetian reunification.

Yana Amelina, a leading researcher at the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, agreed with the Dzidzoev's viewpoint on the impossibility of conducting a dialogue with Georgia.

She stressed that she categorically rejected the idea of restoring the humanitarian relations with Georgia, which has not yet abandoned its aggressive intentions towards Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
