In Azerbaijan, advocate does not exclude new charge against Intigam Aliev

In Azerbaijan, an advocate of Intigam Aliev, the arrested head of the Legal Education Society, expresses the fear that his client may face new charge of illegal purchase, sale or carrying of cold steel arms. The fear is mentioned in connection with the appointment of examination in order to investigate the ornamental daggers seized during the search in the house of Intigam Aliev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 8, the Nasimi District Court of Baku arrested Intigam Aliev for three months at the request of the Prosecutor's Office.

On August 14, Elviz Salaev, an investigator of the Investigating Department of Serious Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan appointed an examination "in order to reveal whether three decorative souvenir daggers seized during the search of the human rights defender's house can be treated as cold steel arms," said Anar Gasymly, the advocate of Intigam Aliev. He treats the decision on the examination as unfounded.

Anar Gasymly has also stated that the administration of the SIZO No. 1 (pre-trial prison) issued a reprimand to Intigam Aliev for transferring through his advocate the records to continue protection in the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) of the rights of the people, whose cases had already been taken into consideration.

According to the advocate, the measure of punishment in the form of a reprimand may be applied against a sentenced person and not against a defendant.

Anar Gasymly has also reported on the preparation of an appeal for change of pre-trial restriction measure to Intigam Aliev to home arrest.
