Dagestan: Gasanov's advocate complains about investigators' inaction

Rustam Yunusov, an advocate of Ilmudin Gasanov kidnapped in Dagestan has stated that investigators fail to act and that the case materials may be intentionally lost.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 20, Ilmudin Gasanov was kidnapped in the village of Uzunotar of the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan. Relatives of Ilmudin Gasanov have filed a complaint to the Prosecutor's Office, the investigating authorities, and the FSB, and they believe law enforcers could be involve in his disappearance.

According to advocate Rustam Yunusov, during more than two weeks, he cannot get the materials of the case on kidnapping to examine them. Rustam Yunusov believes that the investigating authorities use this way to delay the investigation into the case and the case materials could be lost intentionally.

According to the advocate, on August 3, the Ilmudin Gasanov's relatives sent notifications on holding a rally to the Khasavyurt city administration. They indicated the theme of the meeting as "Stopping of the practice of kidnapping and inaction of law enforcement agencies in the investigation and solution of similar crimes." The city authorities refused to sanction the rally the Ilmudin Gasanov's relatives intended to hold.

The rally was not sanctioned in connection to the fact that "starting from February 2014, a regime of counterterrorist operation (CTO) was introduced in the territory of the Northern zone of Dagestan, including in the city of Khasavyurt, which involved the entire staff of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for the city of Khasavyurt", stated the response letter dated on August 8 and signed by Arslan Arslanov, the head of the Khasavyurt city administration.
