Armenian rights defenders launch international inquiry into Karen Petrosyan's death

Larisa Alaverdyan, the head of the public organization "Against Legal Arbitrariness", and Marina Grigoryan, the organizer of the project "Ordinary Genocide", have started collecting written appeals to international organizations calling for an investigation into the cause of death of Armenian citizen Karen Petrosyan captured in Azerbaijan.

The leaders of the two Armenian associations have also called on their colleagues to use their own opportunities to ensure that the body of the Armenian resident is returned to the homeland in accordance with international law.

Meanwhile, according to the "PanArmenian.net", the Armenian Commission on POW (prisoners of war), Hostages and Missing Persons is preparing a complaint to the appropriate international agencies and, in particular, to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

At present, the Armenian side does not exclude the exchange of the Karen Petrosyan's body for one of the citizens of Azerbaijan, who had been earlier detainees in the territory of Armenia. However, the negotiations on the subject are at the initial stage, states Armen Kaprielyan, the head of the working group of the Committee on POW under the Government of Armenia.

"Azerbaijan delays the process of giving out the body of Karen Petrosyan to ensure that the Armenian side will not be able to reveal the true circumstances of his death. The available information about the cruel and inhumane treatment of prisoners raises legitimate doubts," the "Armenpress" quotes Armen Kaprielyan as saying.
