NKR authorities state their readiness to grant asylum to Iraqi Yazidis

The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) is ready to grant asylum to Iraqi Yazidis, said David Babayan, the press secretary of the office of the president of the NKR. Experts believe that the world powers should pay more attention to the problem of Yazidis in Iraq.

Babayan is sure Yazidis in Iraq are suffered the same fate as Armenians; he noted the importance of this ethnic group also living in Armenia.

Gamlet Smoyan, the head of the public organization "National Association of Sinjar", said that currently there are no Yazidi refugees from Iraq in Armenia.

According to his story, last year, violence was also applies against Yazidis, but there was no mass destruction.

Aziz Tamoyan, the head of the Yazidi community in Armenia, believes that Yazidis are killed in Iraq because they refuse to adopt the Islam.

Bro Asanyan, the Sheikh of Yazidis, has noted that "the Yazidi people have fallen victim to politics and territorial claims of a few people." He believes that the destruction of Yazidis in northern Iraq had been pre-planned by the leaders of Iraq and Turkey.

On August 18, the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and heads of diplomatic missions to be consistent in presenting the north-Iraqi Yazidi problem in the international arena, the press service of the president reports.

President Sargsyan discussed the issue with the Prime Minister Ovik Abramyan, in particular, regarding the scale-up of Armenia's humanitarian aid to Iraqi Yazidis.
