Krasnodar Court schedules trial of ecologist Evgeny Vitishko for September 24
The Krasnodar Regional Court has scheduled for September 24 the consideration of the cassation appeal filed by the Prosecutor's Office against the sentence of Evgeny Vitishko, a staff member of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" (EcoWatch).
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told by Dmitry Shevchenko, an activist of the "EcoWatch", that at present, they have problems with communication with Evgeny Vitishko at the settlement-colony and they hardly get accurate information about the situation in the settlement-colony.
"Last week, we got the information that Evgeny was transferred from the colony-settlement to SIZO (pre-trial prison), where he spent almost a week, and after that he was transported back to the settlement-colony. However, I cannot guarantee that the information is accurate," Dmitry Shevchenko has said. And he has added: "At present, Evgeny is for sure at the settlement-colony."
Let us remind you that on August 3, it was announced that Evgeny Vitishko went on hunger strike at the punishment cell of the settlement-colony. According to the ecologist's supporters, Evgeny Vitishko declared hunger strike to protest against placing to the punishment cell. On August 5, the ecologist's supporters reported that Evgeny Vitishko had stopped his hunger strike. Meanwhile, the administration of the penitentiary institution has issued one more reprimand against the sentenced activist for violation of the order in the dungeon (punishment cell).
