In Grozny, law enforcers check passports

On August 21, in parts of the Grozny city territory, Chechen law enforcers checked passport regime, stated local residents. The law enforcement bodies called the checks as "preventive actions" on the eve of large-scale celebrations.

Law enforcers went around households in groups of two or three. They checked men's Ids and questioned people, the local residents told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The local residents have noted the fact that Grozny has not seen such large-scale checks for quite a long time.

"In the coming days and weeks, Grozny is to host major events, including the celebration of the 63rd anniversary of our first President Akhmat-Hadji Kadyrov, the international Islamic forum, and the celebration of the Republic Day on September 6th. Therefore, law enforcers conducted operational activities of preventive nature," stated an official from of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

It should be noted that on August 21, in the Staropromyslovsky District of Grozny, where law enforcers also conducted checks, a mosque was opened in the village of Butenko. The event was attended by government officials and representatives of the Muftiat of Chechnya. According to the local residents, all approaches to the mosque were blocked by armed law enforcers.
