Malakhat Nasibova refutes MIA's version of attack on her husband

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR) has made a statement on the incident with Ilgar Nasibov, a local rights defender, who was severely beaten up. According to the MIA, it was a domestic incident.

On August 23, the MIA issued a statement on the incident with Ilgar Nasibov, a resident of the city of Nakhichevan, who was beaten up in the office of the Public Association "Resource Centre for Democracy and NGOs". According to the MIA's press release, during a feast with alcoholic beverages, being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, Ilgar Nasibov and his friend Farid Askerov, the former Chairman of the Nakhichivan branch of the Civil Solidarity Party, started a dispute that escalated into a fight.

According to the MIA, in its explanatory note, Farid Askerov has testified that the fight had arisen, since Ilgar Nasibov used abusive words against members of his family.

In her turn, the rights defender Malakhat Nasibova, the wife of Ilgar Nasibov, has called the MIA's statement "lie and slander". She has noted that the MIA mentioned the man "who could be Ilgar's son by his age." According to Malakhat Nasibova, Ilgar Nasibov is still in grave condition.

The Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) treats the attack on Ilgar Nasibov as a barbaric act and calls on the international community to express a tough position against the act of vandalism.
