Relatives take home from hospital human rights defender Ilgar Nasibov beaten in Nakhichevan
The health stated of Ilgar Nasibov, a human rights defender and a journalist, who was beaten on August 21 in Nakhichevan, remains heavy; however, he is at home already. On the fifth day after the attack, police forensic experts have recorded in their expert's opinion injuries got by Ilgar Nasibov, stated Malakhat Nasibova, the wife of the beaten activist, the head of the Resource Centre for NGO development of and democracy.
According to her, officials from the US Embassy have also asked about the health state of the beaten activist. As far as the progress of the investigation is concerned, then, according to Malakhat Nasibova, it is to be completed in about a week. Malakhat Nasibova has emphasized that the physical attack "will not break the will" of the spouses and that they will continue their human rights activities. Besides, they intend to file a complaint in connection with the case about the beating of Ilgar Nasibov to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) of Azerbaijan has strongly condemned the attack on Ilgar Nasibov and placed the responsibility on the Azerbaijani authorities.
The NCDF's statement emphasizes that the Nasibov family members conduct their human right activities in the Nakhichivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) under extreme conditions with a constant risk to their health and lives.
According to the NAR's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), no attack on the office of the Resource Centre for NGO development and democracy has been committed, and the incident between Nasibov and Askerov occurred during a fight in domestic conflict.
