During week of August 18-24, 2014, 11 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of August 18-24, 2014, at least 11 persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 8 persons were killed, and 3 persons were wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes six members of the armed underground and two law enforcers, all of them in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On August 19, in Toturbiev Street in Khasavyurt, unidentified persons opened fire on two men and fled the scene by car. As a result of the attack, a Dagestani FSB agent and a passerby were wounded. The wounded civilian died in the hospital. Investigators associate the attack with the professional activity of the wounded FSB agent, and the attack is likely to involve members of illegal armed formations (IAFs), said a source in the Dagestani FSB Department.

At night of August 20, an armed clash occurred in the village of Gubden of the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan. Policemen clashed with a grouping of suspected militants; the grouping presumably included three-five persons. A regime of counterterrorist operation (CTO) was introduced, and law enforcers organized combing of the area and other activities to find and neutralize militants. No casualties were reported.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On August 19, a regime of counterterrorist operation (CTO) was introduced the Soviet District of Makhachkala. In General Omarov Street, police and FSB units blocked an apartment in a high-rise building, where, according to law enforcers, several militants had taken refuge. During the assault of the apartment, two men rendered armed resistance and were killed. They were identified as Assad Abdullaev and Magomed Yunusov, natives of Dagestan. According to secret services, in recent months, they were collaborating with the "Makhachkala" grouping of militants.

On August 22, on the outskirts of Khasavyurt, policemen carried out operational activities. They were shelled from a private house, and one policeman was wounded. The suspects refused to surrender, and law the policemen stormed the building. During the inspection of the special operation place, law enforcers found bodies of four dead militants, pistols, and a Kalashnikov submachine gun. According to the law enforcers, two dead militants were preliminary identified as Magomed Gamzuev group, born in 1988, and Abakar Bolatkhanov, born in 1987, active members of the "Khasavyurt" criminal grouping.

Bombings and terror acts

On August 22, in the village of Maiskoe in North Ossetia, unidentified persons threw a hand grenade to the yard of the house belonging to the deputy chief of the police. No one was injured.

Attacks on civilians

At night of August 18, in the vicinities of the village of Ashilta of the Untsukul District of Dagestan, two local residents, who were returning by car from Kabardino-Balkaria, were stopped by unidentified armed persons in black Priora car. They severely beaten the local residents and wounded them from firearms. One of the victims, Akhmed Magomedov, born in 1975, an unemployed father of four children, who had not been earlier registered at the police, died eventually. The other victim was hospitalized in Makhachkala.

Detentions

At night of August 24, in Makhachkala, a local resident was detained by a policeman. The detention was reported by Asiya Patakhova, a friend of the detained woman. The policeman forcibly took the woman with him, subjected her to sexual abuse in his office, and then let her go, stated the complaint filed to the head of the Investigating Department (ID) for the Republic of Dagestan (RD) of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) by Gulnara Rustamova, the head of the Dagestani Regional Public Organization (DRPO) "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy), who was addressed by the Makhachkala women after the incident.

Disappearance

On August 22, Magomedarip Magomedov, a resident of the village of Shamkhal, disappeared. His wife fears he could be kidnapped. Magomedarip Magomedov was allegedly kidnapped on the road to Makhachkala, where he went in his car.
