Court accuses Imam of Chechen mosque of distributing extremist literature

In Chechnya, the court considers the case of an administrative offense against Khyazhi Muptazov, the Imam of the mosque at the village of Tuskharoi of the high-mountainous Itum-Kale District. The Imam is accused of illegal possession and distribution of extremist materials. This has been told today to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by an official from the Chechen Prosecutor's Office.

"In the village mosque, law enforcers found literature forbidden for distribution in our country and included in the federal list of extremist materials. These are the books of religious content, which two years ago were recognized as extremist materials by the Orenburg City Court," clarified the official from the Chechen Prosecutor's Office.

According to the prosecutor, the Imam has explained to the inspectors that he had purchased the literature "to introduce the basics of religion to mosque-goers." According to the Imam, he was not aware that the books were banned in our country.
