California State Senate adopts resolution recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh

On August 27, the California State Senate adopted a resolution recognizing the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). The document calls on the Senate and the President of the United States to join California in recognizing the NKR. This has been reported today by the "News-Armenia" with reference to the publications of the Armenian Diaspora in the United States.

"The fact of recognition of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) by California equals to the recognition by a strong and powerful state, and this fact is very important both from political point of view and in the context of the recognition of the right of nations for self-determination, if a state builds a normal democratic society," emphasized David Babayan, the head of the Central Information Department of the NKR presidential administration.

In their turn, Baku officials have stated that the resolution adopted by the California State Senate is declarative in nature and has no legal force.

"This fact calls into question the honesty of the senators, who voted for the adoption of this document, since it became possible thanks to the financial support of the Armenian lobby in the USA," the agency "News-Azerbaijan" quotes Elman Abdullaev, the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), as stating at the today's briefing.
