Dagestan: over 30 Buynaksk mosque-goers taken to police

On August 27, after the night namaz (prayer), more than 30 parishioners of the Salafi mosque located in Makhachkala   Highway in the city of Buynaksk were taken to a local police department, one of the residents of the city has reported.

"On August 27, at about 10:30 p.m., just after the night prayer, the mosque was surrounded by policemen; and all the believers were taken to the local police station," a resident of Buynaksk told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on condition of anonymity.

"They took everyone without distinction," Umakhan Akhmedov, the Imam of the mosque has confirmed and added: "Those who had been registered by the police were immediately released; those, who had been not, were registered and also released."

According to his story, when registering, a believer is photographed and fingerprinted; details about all his relatives and his voice are recorded. "All our permanent mosque-goers are registered," said Akhmedov.

A law enforcement source has confirmed that "a preventive detention of more than 30 people" took place in Buynaksk.
