Sochi police demand to stop construction of high-rise building

In Sochi, residents of houses located in Park and Constitution Streets had a spontaneous gathering in connection with the construction of a nearby 16-storey building. The Sochi residents believe that the high-rise building is being constructed in dangerous proximity to their apartment buildings. The Sochi residents called policemen, who ordered the developer to suspend the construction, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Lina Galatenko, a resident of the house in No. 10 in Constitution Street, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they had filed complaints to various authorities, but did not succeeded. "No official ever responded to our complaints, although almost 2 months have passed since we had filed the complaints. Last week, they began construction," Lina Galatenko has said.

According to the woman, the nearby residential buildings began cracking after an excavator started digging a pit on the next land plot.

On August 28, the local residents called the police and complained that unidentified people started destroying their houses by conducting unauthorized construction works. The policemen have completed a report on the site and asked an agent of the developer to sign it, thus obliging the developer to suspend construction works "till clarification of the circumstances."

"We intend to hold a rally against corruption, if the people involved in the construction works are not brought to justice," Zhanna Podporina, a local resident, has expressed the opinion of the residents who attended the spontaneous gathering.
