In Georgian colonies, 32 prisoners continue their hunger strike, Archil Talakvadze reports

At present, in Georgian penal colonies, 32 prisoners continue a protest action in the form of hunger strike. This was stated on August 28 by Archil Talakvadze, the Georgian Deputy Minister of Correction, Probation and Legal Assistance. According to his story, in addition to other demands, the prisoners call for reconsideration of their cases.

According to Talakvadze, a hunger strike is a typical form of protest within the Georgian system of penitentiary institutions, and staff members of penal colony administrations, psychologists and physicians do care of every hunger-striker by controlling the state of protestor's health.

"The prisoners' claims are mainly related to the reconsideration of their cases and early relief. Each case is considered individually," Archil Talakvadze has noted.

He has added that the Ministry does it best within its competence; however, the demands of hunger-strikers are often beyond the scope of the Ministry's competence, the agency "Georgia Online" reports.

The numbers of the penal colonies where the prisoners are on hunger strike have not been reported.
