In Kutaisi, hunger-striker from SIZO No. 2 taken to hospital
Inmates of the SIZO No. 2 (pre-trial prison) of the Georgian town of Kutaisi continue a protest action. They demand reconsideration of their cases and attention of the administration. One of the hunger-strikers has been brought to the hospital, his wife reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at present, 32 inmates of the Georgian penal colonies hold a protest action in the form of hunger strike. This was reported on August 28 by Archil Talakvadze, the Georgian Deputy Minister of Correction, Probation and Legal Assistance.
Djaba Shavadze, one of the protesters, was taken to hospital after he had sewed up his mouth, the "Tbilisi Week" reports.
"My husband has been on hunger strike for 15 days. I am not allowed to visit him, and I am not aware of his condition. He was visited by a prosecutor, who told him that his hunger strike had no sense," the "Tbilisi Week" quotes the wife of Giorgy Andriadze, one of the SIZO inmates.
In the nearest future, the hunger-strikers are to be visited by a staff member of the Ombudsman's Office, the "Georgia Online" reported on August 29.
