Rights defender Nasibov denied version of Nakhichevan MIA about his beating

The rights defender Ilgar Nasibov, who was beaten up in Nakhichevan, has returned home after a medical examination in Turkey. By his perception, he is successfully recovering from received traumas. He treated the version of law enforcers that the cause of his beating was an everyday domestic conflict as a lie.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21 a group of unidentified men attacked the Nakhichevan office of the Resource Centre for NGO Development and Democracy and severely beat up Ilgar Nasibov, an employee of the Centre. In grave condition he was sent to the intensive care unit. On August 29, with the assistance of international human rights organizations Nasibov was brought to Turkey for medical examination.

In the evening on September 1, the Nasibov spouses returned from Turkey to the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR), where they live.

Ilgar Nasibov insists that he suffered because of his human rights activities.

"Our work had long troubled the NAR's authorities; their particular resentment was caused by our participation in preparing and bringing to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) the case of death of Turadj Zeinalov, committed at the Ministry of National Security of the NAR," said Nasibov.

According to his story, he and his family still do not feel safe. "It is not known what else they can do. We are shadowed; and our phones are tapped. They shadow us even when we go to the doctor," said Nasibov.
