Advocate: Chechen SC postpones consideration of Kutaev's complaint indefinitely
Today, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has postponed indefinitely the consideration of the appeal complaint against the verdict passed to Ruslan Kutaev, the President of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, said his advocate Pyotr Zaikin.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 7, the Urus-Martan District Court of Chechnya sentenced Ruslan Kutaev to four years imprisonment on charge of drug possession. The verdict against Ruslan Kutaev will be challenged. This was stated by Pyotr Zaikin, an advocate of the human rights defender. The international human rights organization "Amnesty International" recognized Ruslan Kutaev a "prisoner of conscience".
Advocate Pyotr Zaikin told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that today the Judicial Board for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic began considering the complaint against the sentence passed to Ruslan Kutaev by the Urus-Martan City Court.
"However, the consideration of the case on the merits didn't take place. The above Board returned the case back in the Urus-Martan City Court, because the latter had failed to consider the remarks to the protocol of a court session, submitted by the defence," said Pyotr Zaikin, who represents Ruslan Kutaev's interests.
According to the advocate, the consideration at the SC will continue after the above City Court considers the above remarks. The date of the next SC's session was not defined.
Meanwhile, Ruslan Kutaev is still behind bars, said Pyotr Zaikin.
