In North Ossetia, forum dated to 10th anniversary of Beslan tragedy gathers scientists from different countries

On September 3, Vladikavkaz launched the second international forum "Children are the victims of terror in recent history: the problem of historical memory". The forum is dated to the 10th anniversary of the tragedy in Beslan. Participants of the forum are going to involve the scientific communities both in Russia and foreign countries in the work for prevention of terror against children.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Beslan School assault. The school is now a memorial complex. On September 1, about three thousand people came there to commemorate those who died in Beslan.

On September 1, 2004, a grouping of terrorists seized 1128 hostages at the School No. 1 of Beslan. The special operation to free the hostages was completed only on September 3, 2004. 186 children and 148 adults fell victim to the terror act. 810 persons were injured.

The international forum, which was launched on September 3 in Vladikavkaz, was organized by the Government of North Ossetia, the Research and Educational Centre "Holocaust", the State University named after K. L. Khetagurov, and the Russian Jewish Congress (RJC).

According to Alla Gerber, the co-Chair of the Research and Educational Centre "Holocaust", the important task is to study the international experience to perpetuate the memory of the children who fell victims to the Holocaust, and the Centre is to use this task as the basis to develop techniques to perpetuate the memory of the tragedy in Beslan.

Alla Gerber has emphasized that children are falling victims to the undeclared wars in Iraq and Syria and to the hostilities in Ukraine. The co-Chair of the Centre "Holocaust" has stated that in such a difficult situation, all public institutions, both domestic and foreign ones, should not keep silence, but they should work actively in all directions in order to save human lives and, in particularly, children's lives.
