Former opposition activist Said Nuri banned from leaving Azerbaijan
In Azerbaijan, law enforcement bodies have banned Said Nuri, a former opposition activist, from leaving the country, the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan reports.
This summer, Said Nuri has arrived in Baku to visit his ailing father, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the former opposition activist himself.
"In the morning of September 4, I flew from the Baku airport to Ukraine; however, I was not allowed to enter the plane. When I was going through the border control, I was informed that the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of National Security (MNS) banned me from leaving the country. No reasons were explained to me, and I was advised to go to the above agencies. However, I cannot get any explanation from them," Said Nuri has stated.
Said Nuri has reported that he is a citizen of the United States and that he has informed the US Embassy about the incident.
Said Nuri himself believes the ban is politically motivated.
"Since 2003, I'm in the midst of political processes in Azerbaijan. I have always been in opposition to the current regime in Azerbaijan. And I also left the country as a political refugee," Said Nuri has stated.
