Georgian NGO calls on to reconsider cases of hunger-striking prisoners

The NGO "Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights" has called on the Georgian authorities to pay attention to the demands of inmates of Georgian prisons on hunger strike. The leader of the NGO "Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights" has reminded that the ruling coalition came to power through promises to reconsider the cases of wrongfully convicted persons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the inmates of Georgian prisons announced a protest action in the form of hunger strike. As of August 28, according to the Ministry of Corrections, 32 persons took part in the hunger strike. The prisoners demanded to reconsider their cases. According to the wife of one of the hunger-strikers, her husband was taken to hospital. According to the NGO, the hunger strike involves inmates of the prisons of Kutaisi and Rustavi.

"The strike has not yet ceased. Human rights defenders call on the authorities to reconsider the cases of the protestors," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Nana Kakabadze, the leader of the NGO "Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights".
