GPO: Nuri's ban to leave Azerbaijan has to do with criminal case where he is witness

As reported by the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan, the prohibition imposed on the former Azerbaijani opposition activist Said Nuri to leave the country is caused by his role of a witness in a criminal case and the need to take part in investigatory actions. Besides, law enforcement bodies treat Nuri as an Azerbaijani citizen and reject his American citizenship.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 4, at departure from the Baku Airport to Ukraine Said Nuri, who came to Baku in summer to visit his sick father, was removed from the flight. The border guards' motive was in the ban imposed by Azerbaijani law enforcers. Nuri himself said that he is a citizen of the United States; and he informed the US Embassy about the incident.

According to the today's official release of the press service of the Azerbaijani GPO, quoted by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the temporary restriction of Said Nuri's travels has to do with the investigation of a criminal case by the Investigating Department of Grave Crimes of the GPO.

The above release does not specify the case, where Nuri is a witness.

He himself believes that the Azerbaijani authorities are putting pressure on him for political reasons.
