Advocate asks Russian Finance Ministry to confirm allocation of compensation funds to Dagestani villagers
Advocate Sapiyat Magomedova has reported on sending an appeal to the Russian Ministry of Finance requesting to allocate funds from the federal budget for compensation to residents of the village of Mekhelta of the Gumbet District of Dagestan affected by the torrential rains. According to the local residents, the problem of compensation is still acute.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 29, Saigitag Shayikhmagomedov and Shayikhmagomed Shayikhmagomedov, two residents of the village of Mekhelta of the Gumbet District of Dagestan, appealed to the Dagestani leader with the complaint about delay in pronouncement of the decision and payment of compensation to the villagers affected by the natural disaster. However, on September 1, the Government of Dagestan responded to the villagers' complaint and informed them that the funds for compensation for destroyed houses of the people affected by the natural disaster had not been yet allocated from the federal budget.
The letter from the Russian Ministry of Regional Development of June 25, 2006, casts doubt on the Dagestani Government's response. This opinion has been expressed by advocate Sapiyat Magomedova, who represents the interests of two Mekhelta residents. The advocate has provided a copy of the document received from the Ministry of Regional Development to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
On September 2, Sapiyat Magomedova sent a request to the Russian Ministry of Finance asking to inform her "if the funds had been allocated from the federal budget for compensation to the people affected by the natural disaster and in case of affirmative answer, in what amount and when the funds were transferred to Dagestan." This was reported by the advocate herself.
