In Dagestan, law enforcers identify men killed in shootout as active members of armed underground
Today, two men have been killed during a shootout with the police that occurred in Khasavyurt. According to sources in the law enforcement bodies of Dagestan, the killed men were involved in the armed underground.
Inspectors of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) tried to stop a car to check the IDs of the people in it; however, the men opened fire on the policemen from the car, and they were killed by return fire, the ITAR-TASS reports with reference to a source in the law enforcement bodies of Dagestan.
According to the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), the killed men were preliminary identified as Ruslan Magomedov and Magomed Gaziev, "active members of the 'Khasavyurt' criminal grouping."
According to the NAC's Operational Headquarters in the Republic of Dagestan (RD), Ruslan Magomedov and Magomed Gaziev were "involved in assassinations of government officials and acts of extortion of large amounts of money from local businessmen to finance the armed underground," the RIA "Novosti" reports with reference to the NAC.
