Many thousands march in Chechen capital on Republic's Day (+video)
A mass parade was held today in central Grozny, the capital of Chechnya to mark the Republic's Day.
Chechnya began marking September 6 as the Republic's Day in 2002. Another name of the holiday is the Day of Civil Harmony and Unity.
Some participants in the today's march told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about their forced participation in the parade
"Yesterday, all the students of my group were warned at the University that no lessons will take place today, but a march would be held in honour of the Republic's Day, and the participation therein is mandatory. Naturally, we were warned that those who ignored the event would be specially registered at the dean's office," Musa, a student at the Chechen State University, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Townspeople also complain about problems related to blocked central streets in Grozny because of enhanced security measures.
