Advocate: Baku SIZO confiscates Aliev's appeal to Penitentiary Service
In Azerbaijan, the administration of the Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison) No. 1 has confiscated the complaint of the lawyer Intigam Aliev, who is kept at the facility, about violations of detainees' rights addressed to the bosses of the Penitentiary Service, said Aliev's advocate Anar Gasymly.
On September 6, Gasymly visited Aliev in SIZO-1 located in the settlement of Kyurdakhany. According to the lawyer, the confiscated appeal also spoke about their further defence tactics, as well as about "illegal restrictions imposed on detainees' correspondence, letters of support addressed to them, and delivery of literature."
Gasymly treats the incident as a violation of Aliev's rights and his own rights as an advocate. He has also conveyed Aliev's oral message to the public that "the recent arrests of activists illustrate that Azerbaijan is governed with feudal methods." Nevertheless, in Aliev's opinion, these arrests should not intimidate the society.
Gasymly does not rule out his filing a complaint with the court, if the restrictions on Aliev's correspondence with his advocates continue.
