Shamkhal residents demand thorough investigation into killing of five fellow villagers
About 100 villagers of Shamkhal held a picket in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, demanding an open and thorough investigation into the killing of five local hunters. Law enforcement officials promised to come to the village and tell about the inquiry.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 3, the Kirov District of Makhachkala was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime, after a car with the bodies of five murdered men was found in Shamkhal. Power agents said that they used the CTO regime for searching militants and their helpers.
At the picket in Makhachkala, villagers demanded explanations on how such a crime could be committed. Relatives of the casualties took the inquiry under public control, said Madina Magomedova, a sister of one of the killed men.
Nurmagomed Murtazaliev, the head of the OVD (Interior Division) of Makhachkala, came to meet the picketers. He promised that on September 9 law enforcers will meet village activists to discuss the incident and assess the situation in the village.
