In Sochi, court postpones trial in Olga Martynyuk's case until September 15 because of defendant's illness
In Sochi, the court has postponed until September 15 the court hearing on the case against Olga Martynyuk, a local resident, accused of beating a bailiff, because of her illness.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 4, the Khosta District Court of Sochi sentenced Olga Martynyuk and her daughter Oksana Toropova to one year in a penal colony on charges of assaulting a bailiff. The Court of Appeal of the Regional Court has returned the case for reconsideration by the different panel of judges. On August 14, the District Court sentenced Oksana Toropova to 1.5 years of conditional imprisonment. The woman has filed an appeal against the new sentence.
The case against Olga Martynyuk was separated, since she had been brought to hospital with hypertensive crisis. For this reason, the court postponed the court hearings on August 20, 27 and September 4.
Today, defendant Olga Martynyuk and her advocate Alexander Popkov have failed to attend the court hearing of the Khosta District Court in the case against Olga Martynyuk. The public prosecutor and the victim claimed the case could not be considered in the absence of the defendant and her advocate.
Let us remind that the incident, which brought Olga Martynyuk and Oksana Toropova to the prisoners' dock, took place at the building of the Khosta District Court on August 22, 2013. The women came there to ask questions about the civil lawsuit filed earlier by Oksana Toropova. The mother and her daughter claim that the judge unreasonably pressed a panic button, and then court marshal Mikhail Muradin entered the office and used force against the women. According to the public prosecutor, the women themselves have beaten Mikhail Muradin.
