Kirill Koroteev: ECtHR to determine if authorities violated rights of hostages in Beslan terror act

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) is to consider the case of the victims of the terror act in Beslan and to reveal if the rights of hostages were violated. The materials of the official investigation have been submitted to the Strasbourg Court by the Russian Government. This was reported by Kirill Koroteev, a representative of the complainants, at the "roundtable" titled "Beslan: 10 years later" that was held in Moscow.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 1, Susanna Dudieva, the Chair of the Public Committee "Mothers of Beslan", reported that on October 14, the ECtHR would begin the consideration of the complaint filed by the victims of the terror act at the Beslan school. During the court hearings on the case of the terror act in Beslan, the ECtHR is to focus on the issues related to indiscriminate use of weapons, planning of the rescue operation, and measures taken by the authorities to prevent the terror act, stated the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC).

Ella Kesaeva, the leader of the NGO "Voice of Beslan", has expressed the opinion that the authorities are reluctant to objectively investigate the circumstances of the terror act.

"The position of the authorities means to hide the traces of the crime and to extend the time period. We were not allowed to examine the materials of the criminal case," Ella Kesaeva has stated.

According to psychologist Alexander Kolmanovsky, Beslan residents still suffer from psychological injuries they got ten years ago.
