MCC rejects HRC's motion against District Court's refusal to consider complaint about registration as foreign agent
The Moscow City Court (MCC) has dismissed the appeal complaint filed by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" against the District Court's decision, which had recognized the demand of the Moscow Prosecutor's Office (MPO) to get registered as a foreign agent to be legitimate, said Ulyana Solopova, the head of the press service of the MCC.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after the unscheduled inspection held in March 2013, the MPO demanded from the HRC "Memorial" to get registered as a foreign agent. The Centre then disagreed with the MPO's conclusion that the HRC's activities were allegedly political. Thus, the HRC "Memorial" had challenged the MPO's demand at the Zamoskvorechye District Court of Moscow. However, on May 23, 2014, the District Court dismissed the complaint; and on June 23, the HRC "Memorial" filed an appeal against the decision of the District Court.
It should be noted here that the HRC is already on the Registry of Non-Profit Organizations (NPO) – Foreign Agents, published on the website of the Russia's Ministry of Justice (MoJ).
