Rostov Region: court sentences three ex-policemen to four years in colony each for beating a victim

The City Court of Bataisk, Rostov Region, has found three former district policemen of the GOVD (City Interior Division) guilty of abuse of power.

The incident that drove the cops to the prisoner's dock, took place in October 2012.

The investigators and the court found that the above policemen, who arrived in the household of a local resident to take his oral statement about the theft of his cell phone and collect primary investigative data, refused to do so. In order to induce the victim to never again address law-enforcement bodies, they punched him in the face and also beat up his brother and girlfriend.

At the trial, the cops, already dismissed from the police, were found guilty of committing a crime under Article 286, part 3, point "a" (abuse of power), of the Russian Criminal Code.

Each of them was sentenced to four years of imprisonment in a general security colony, says the today's statement posted on the website of the Investigating Department (ID) for the Rostov Region of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation.
