Prosecutor's Office refuses to open criminal case on beating journalist Farkhadoglu in Baku

The Prosecutor's Office has illegally refused to open a criminal case on the fact of beating Tapdyg Farkhadoglu (Guliev), a correspondent of the Turan Agency, said the lawyer Ruslan Aliev, who is representing the journalist's interests.

The incident, which was investigating by the Prosecutor's Office, occurred on February 20 in the course of the protest action, held by students of the Baku State University (BSU) in front of the university building.

On February 20, over 100 of them came out to protest against increased payments for re-examination. The BSU's security service and policemen tried to resist the action; and journalists also suffered in the process.

Ruslan Aliev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Farkhadoglu was attacked by one of the BSU's security bosses.

"Despite the video evidence of use of force against the journalist, presented by us and his surgery on his received injuries, the Prosecutor's Office failed to conduct an objective investigation and refused to open a criminal case," said Aliev.

The decision to refuse to open a criminal case was made back on May 10, but it was served to the journalist only on September 12.

The lawyer has noted that Tapdyg Farkhadoglu intends to appeal against the decision of the Prosecutor's Office.
