SIS of Armenia starts investigating attack on "A1+" journalist

Under instruction of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia, the Special Inquiry Service (SIS) has launched an investigation into the attack on a female journalist of the "A1+". SIS agents try to find out whether there are grounds for criminal prosecution, a source from the SIS told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on September 16.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 9, during the protest action in Yerevan, a staff member of the Parliament Security Service came into conflict with Marina Khachatryan, a journalist of the "A1+" TV Channel. According to the video record of the incident disseminated in the common social networks and media, the security officer used force against the journalist.

Lusine Margaryan, the press secretary of the SIS, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the Service is examining the message of the "Association of Informed Citizens" of September 12, 2014, and the video footage of the attack on the journalist posted on the "Hetq.am".

According to Boris Navasardyan, the head of the Yerevan Press Club, in this case, "we see just another manifestation of unbridled behaviour of the people, who should ensure the safety of state institutions."

The problem has long been observed in Armenia, said Navasardyan. "We need to continue declaring the inadmissibility of such phenomena, to continue working towards fair investigation into such incidents, and just punishment of those guilty," he said, stressing that a criminal case should certainly be opened.
