Sochi public stands against removal of protected status from 28 monuments of nature

In Sochi, participants of public hearings speak against the proposal to withdraw the status of protected areas from 28 natural monuments.

Let us remind you that in 2013, similar proposal was also criticized by activists. On November 25, 2013, the hearing on the issue of withdrawal of the status of protected areas from 28 natural monuments failed.

The repeated hearings were held in accordance with the resolution No. 1409 of July 20, 2014, issued by Anatoly Pakhomov, the head of the Sochi city administration. The hearings were held at the Central District Administration on September 17.

The hearings were attended by about fifty persons. They spoke against the proposal to withdraw the status of protected areas from the specified objects.

The participants of the hearings stated that the Sochi natural monuments were subjected to deliberate destruction. The natural monuments also perish because of the officials' negligent attitude and mistakes, like in case of the destruction of boxwood grove, which received no care since 2012, until it was destructed by caterpillars, the participants said.
