In Nakhichevan, policemen file charge against beaten human rights defender Ilgar Nasibov

Ilgar Nasibov, a human rights defender beaten in Nakhichevan has been charged with inflicting bodily harm to Farid Askerov. Ilgar Nasibov himself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about it.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21, in Nakhichevan, a group of unidentified persons attacked the office of the Democracy and NGO Development Resource Centre. While assaulting the office, the attackers severely beat Ilgar Nasibov, a staff member of the Resource Centre. He was brought to the resuscitation ward in serious condition.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has reported the detention of Farid Askerov, a resident of Nakhichevan, on suspicion of beating Ilgar Nasibov and announced that Ilgar Nasibov suffered as a result of a domestic fight. Two weeks after the beating of Ilgar Nasibov, the MIA has opened a criminal case on the fact of the incident and recognized the human rights defender as a victim.

Today, on September 20, Ilgar Nasibov was again invited to the Police Department of the city of Nakhichevan.

"I was informed that Farid Askerov filed a complaint against me and stated that I allegedly stepped on his foot and injured his little toe. Of course, it is an absurd accusation," Ilgar Nasibov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The human rights defender has been charged under Article "Intentional infliction of minor bodily harm, not dangerous to life of victim and causing no serious consequences" of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Ilgar Nasibov believes that the charge against him is politically motivated and that it is filed to "neutralize him" and "hush up the case."
