In Nakhichevan, rights defender Ilgar Nasibov placed under police supervision
Ilgar Nasibov, a rights defender beaten in Nakhichevan, has faced a pre-trial restriction measure against him he is transferred under police supervision. He treats the measure as a politically motivated move.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21, in Nakhichevan, a group of unidentified persons attacked the office of the Democracy and NGO Development Resource Centre. While assaulting the office, the attackers severely beat Ilgar Nasibov, a staff member of the Resource Centre. Two weeks after the rights defender had been beaten, law enforcers instituted a criminal case on the incident and recognized him as a victim.
However, on September 20, Ilgar Nasibov was charged with "intentional infliction of bodily harm." According to the police, Ilgar Nasibov inflicted bodily harm to Askerov.
On Monday, Ilgar Nasibov was summoned to the Nakhchivan City Police Department, where the confrontation took place between him and Askerov.
"This man began lying that I trampled his toe, that I threw a glass and injured his little finger. This is absurd. I could not do that, since Askerov is much younger and physically stronger than me. On the other hand, there were several men of them, and they beat me until I lost consciousness," Ilgar Nasibov has said.
Ilgar Nasibov was offered to hire an advocate at public expense; however, he declined the offer. The rights defender has also not ruled out that he will file an appeal against the decision on the pre-trial restriction measure against him.
