In Azerbaijan, son of oppositionist Oktai Gyulalyev rejects charge against him at trial

In Baku, the court has started hearings on the merits in the case against Ali, a minor son of oppositionist Oktai Gyulalyev, who is charged with disorderly conduct. In the course of the court hearing, the court has listened to prosecutors, defenders, and the victim. The defendant has stated that the criminal case was fabricated because of political activities of his father, the Press Secretary of the opposition National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF).

Ali Gyulalyev has rejected the charge against him and stated that he was not acquainted with Bairam Sultanly, a victim in the case. The defendant has stated that they were studying together at the same school, but at different forms. According to the defendant, he never saw Bairam Sultanly until this July, when he saw him at the Chief Police Department of the city of Baku. Ali Gyulalyev has also expressed the opinion that the case was politically motivated and associated it with the activities of his father.

The trial was watched by members of the group for public support of Ali Gyulalyev. Mirmakhmud Miralioglu, one of the supporters, the Chairman of the "Classic" People's Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has called the trial and the very criminal case "politically motivated".

It should be noted that Oktai Gyulalyev is a member of the Public Alliance "Azerbaijan has no political prisoners."
