Opening of Gimry Tunnel postponed

The opening of the Gimry Tunnel for motor traffic scheduled for September 23 did not take place. The reason was the deterioration of the situation in the settlement of Vremenny, Untsukul District of Dagestan, said a source from the district administration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 18 a resident of the Vremenny settlement, adjacent to the village of Gimry, said that the settlement was blocked by power agents and militaries – over a thousand servicemen in total. Locals reported that on September 19 law enforcers started household-by-household inspection and check of everyone living in every house. In the evening on September 22, shooting burst out in Vremenny.

The shooting stopped after 01:00 a.m. Moscow time on September 23, a resident of the Untsukul District said. Also, according to villagers, the developments in Vremenny had to do with the return of locals who were at war in Syria – from 10 to 15 persons.

Meanwhile, according to a female resident, from September 19 the fate of four locals detained with the start of the military operation in the settlement remains unknown. Their names are Magomedzagid, Sultanbeg, Murtazali and Gadji.

The Untsukul ROVD (District Interior Division) said that they knew nothing about the detention of local residents.
