Candidates for KBR leader nominate their supposed senators
Each of the three candidates for the post of the head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has proposed three candidates for the membership of the Council of Federation (the so-called "Senate") of Russia, Tatiana Egorova, the Speaker of the Republic's Parliament, said today. In particular, the Acting Head of the KBR Yuri Kokov has nominated Arsen Kanokov, the ex-head of the KBR.
On September 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin brought three candidates for the post of the republic's leader to the KBR's Parliament, namely: the above Yuri Kokov; Irina Maryash, a Vice-Premier of the KBR; and Alij Musukov, the Minister for Economic Development. The local MPs will elect the head of the KBR on October 9.
Let us remind you that on April 3 the MPs of the KBR adopted amendments to the Constitution of the KBR and the Law "On Procedure for Electing Head of KBR", which cancelled the direct election of the republic's leader. Now, he or she will be elected by local parliamentarians from among three persons suggested by Russian President. The latter, in his turn, chooses three candidates from lists presented by political the parties.
