On September 22-28, three persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of September 22-28, 2014, at least two persons were killed in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. One person was wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes one suspected member of the armed underground and one civilian, both of them in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On September 25, at about 5:00 p.m. Moscow time, in the yard of the house No. 14 in Imam Shamil Avenue in Makhachkala, inspectors of the patrol-and-post service (known as PPS) stopped a man to check his ID. According to law enforcers, the man took a grenade out of his jacket pocket and tried to pull out its safety pin. The policemen opened fire. As a result, the man was killed, and one of the policemen was wounded. It was not reported how the policeman was wounded. However, given the information that the killed man had no firearms with him and that he had not enough time to pull out the safety pin of the grenade, a source in the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) voiced a version that a bullet could wound the policeman as a result of a rebound. The killed man has been preliminary identified as Alil Gadjiramazanov. According to the law enforcers, he was an active member of the "Gunib" militant grouping, and since the end of 2013, he "went to underground."

Special and counterterrorist operations

On September 22, at about 10:00 p.m., in the village of Vremenny, where since September 19, law enforcers go around households and check all residents of every house, an intensive shooting from large-calibre weapons occurred, and it did not cease until 1:00 a.m. of September 23. No information is reported on casualties of the shootout.

On September 27, a regime of counterterrorist operation (CTO) was introduced at the administrative border of the Gumbet and Kazbek Districts in the vicinity of the Mount Tsana in Dagestan in connection with search for suspected militants at the border of two districts.

Attacks on civilians

In the evening of September 25, in the village of Teletl of the Shamil District of Dagestan, unidentified persons killed Shamil Badaviev, a local resident. According to a Teletl villager, two unidentified persons shot and killed Shamil Badaviev in a street of the village, when he was returning from working at the construction of medrese. The source has added that the killed man was one of the initiators of the construction of a medrese in Teletl and that he supervised the construction progress. Shamil Badaviev was an opponent of Salafism, and, according to local residents, that fact became the motive for his murder. The local residents believe that Shamil Badaviev was killed by members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) out of revenge.

At night of September 26, in the vicinity of the village of Khebda of the Shamil District, five armed men in masks attacked the base of the workers of the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Mostotryad-99" engaged in the construction of the Dagestani section of the Avar-Kakheti highway. The attackers tied up four builders and demanded to cease the works, claiming that the Avar-Kakheti highway was being constructed "exclusively for the needs of the Russian army." Then, the attackers set on fire four builders' wagons and took the workers away to the direction of the village of Kosob. On the way, the attackers closed the builders with their hands tied in one of the buildings and blocked the door by stones. By the morning, the workers managed to escape. A VAZ-2114 car was hijacked from the scene of the crime. The car was found in the course of investigation.

Kidnappings

On September 25, in No. 83a in Gamzat Tsadasa Street in Kizilyurt, unidentified persons in masks who arrived in a Lada car kidnapped Sakhratulla Sadrudinovich Magomedov, born in 1983. Family members of the kidnapped man filed a complaint to the inter-district OVD (Interior Division) of the Kizilyurt District, and their complaint was accepted for consideration. The relatives of the kidnapped man assumed that Sakhratulla Magomedov was kidnapped by law enforcers and appealed to the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan. The family members of Sakhratulla Magomedov state that he was not registered at the police and that law enforcers had no claims against him.
