PACE to hold side-event on "Unprecedented Repressions in Azerbaijan"

The PACE fall session opened on September 29 in Strasbourg is to hold so-called "side-event" titled "Unprecedented Repressions in Azerbaijan". This has been told today to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Khadidja Ismailova, an Azerbaijani investigative journalist, who is to take part in the forthcoming discussions.

According to Khadidja Ismailova, the side-event is scheduled for October 2 and to be held at the Hall 3 of the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg.

"In Azerbaijan, the repression against political and civil society activists, journalists and bloggers has reached an unprecedented level. The number of political prisoners exceeds one hundred. The activities of about two dozen of active local and international NGOs are being paralyzed as a result of prosecution, freezing of bank accounts and refusal to register grants. Such horrific human rights situation requires immediate intervention of the international community, including the Council of Europe (CoE)," Khadidja Ismailova has emphasized.
