Vremenny residents reject power agents' offer to leave their houses

A local woman told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today that law enforcers offered the residents of the settlement of Vremenny, Untsukul District of Dagestan, to leave their settlement. According to her story, residents refused to do it, fearing for their property.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 18, Vremenny was blocked by law enforcers and militaries. On September 19, they began inspecting household by household and check everybody living there; and at night on September 23, gunfire was heard for about three hours. As reported on September 24, by a woman from Vremenny, almost all the men were taken to the neighbouring village of Gimry under the pretext of identification; the school and kindergarten were closed; the movement in the settlement was restricted; and many locals' houses were searched.

"Yesterday, the women remaining in Vremenny were asked to leave the settlement for 3 days. The request was motivated by the fact that a shootout might burst out there," the source told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to her data, now, about 70 residents stay in Vremenny, mostly women, as well as several elderly men. In total, Vremenny has about 200 households (families).

The Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) found it difficult to comment on the information that residents were asked to leave the settlement. A MIA source told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that agents of federal law enforcement bodies are at work in Vremenny.

Let us note here that today the HRC "Memorial" has reported that power agents refused to let rights defenders to the settlement to talk to locals.
