Astrakhan fire victims demand compensations to be paid before winter

On September 29, in Astrakhan, 15 families of a multi-apartment building No. 78 in Menzhinsky Street, which was destroyed by fire, demanded from the municipal authorities to resolve the problem of compensation payments before the winter. Officials from the city administration have promised to conclude in the near future the agreements on redemption prices with the people affected by fire and pay monetary compensations. However, the officials refuse to indicate the exact date when the problem is solved.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by fire victim Maxim Polsky that at 2:00 a.m. of April 15, 2013, an unidentified criminal fired the multi-apartment two-storey wooden building No. 78 located in Menzhinsky Street in the Soviet District of Astrakhan. As a result, according to Maxim Polsky, many apartment owners lost in the fire their property and documents. The residents of the building believe their house was set on fire by commercial motive.

"All that we are trying to achieve during these 17 months is to accelerate the problem of payment of compensation to us for the land plot and the apartments destroyed by the fire. We hope that the problem will be solved before the winter. The people require the quick solution of the housing problem, since it is extremely hard to live in the conditions they live now," Maxim Polsky has said.

Many families were provided with apartments from manoeuvre reserve. According to the victims of the fire, the living areas of those apartments are insufficient. Many people are not provided with gas and hot water supply in their apartments. The fire victims hope to resolve the problem of compensation before the winter.
